Battlefield 1 Beta Review
Battlefield 1 is that World War 1 game everyone has been waiting for and now that the beta is over, I had to review it.
In the beta, we were provided all 4 classes with 3 different weapons (and their variants) for each class, each of these weapons feeling unique from the rest, e.g. on assault switching from assault rifle to a shotgun. The map provided was Sinai desert and it was fun… for the first few matches, if the gameplay hadn't have been good I would have probably stopped playing pretty quickly, the map just seemed like one of those maps you are hoping don't show up or you would only want to play once every several matches. For the game mode Rush, it worked great, the cliffside providing defending snipers and edge on the attackers whilst still giving the attackers cover to move up inch by inch to the point. Though the map for me, falls down in Conquest, this is mainly due to how open this map is, in a game like battlefield 4 or hardline where there are plenty of vehicles to pick from which all have good speed but in battlefield 1, there are 3 different vehicles (not including tank and plane variants), and yes, whilst you could use a plane and jump out to get to a point but that wastes a plane for someone who could be an expert pilot who would have been able to break down enemy defences.
And that brings me onto my next complaint, why are there such long respawn times for vehicles, I'm pretty sure every ten times I die I'll only see a vehicle once out of those ten times and it basically becomes luck of the draw if you get one or not and I think I know why respawn times are slow, if a vehicle of that kind is still up and running from your team on the battlefield, it won't respawn and I find that ridiculous because if your team is good enough to keep all the vehicles up for 5 minutes or so, more vehicles should spawn giving more people in the team a chance of getting to drive a vehicle rather than gunning with some random new guy that just started playing the beta.
But other than that, this has given me high hopes for the full game, things like the behemoth giving the losing team an advantage for sometime over a large number of points and if all classes feel balanced, if you were to have 4 people of equal skill playing against each other with all 4 classes then most likely, anyone could be the winner in the end.
This has been the best beta I played in a while and I have good expectations for the full game.
